Eureka thermal cut off, model 4870?

The vacumn stopped and it looks like the thermal cut has been tripped. How can I fix without taking it into a repair shop. Is ther an internal reset switch?

I had the same problem as J.S. Our Eureka 4870 stopped working. I opened it up to find the hot wire broken at the quick connect on the motor. I crimped a new one on, reconnected it and the vacuum is up and running.

I had the same problem. I removed the motor using the great directions given by JS. But, the motor smells burnt and cuts off after a second. It needs replacing.

Scotty,
I had the same problem. I took the whole thing apart and couldn't find any fuses or switches to reset. In my case it turned out that one of the connectors attaching the power cord directly to the motor broke. A little bit of soldering fixed it. You can access the motor by opening the lower front cover. There are 4 screws under the filter (under the cover that reads 'The only sealed...'), 3 screws outside (to access those you need to lower the top part of the vacuum cleaner all the way to the floor). Hope it helps.

And as they note,
Attempting repairs can be dangerous.
In many instances work should only be undertaken by a qualified professional.
