Repair to a Tecumseh LAV153 4 stroke?
I'm overhauling this unit, but don't get a spark when rotating the flywheel. I discovered after removing the flywheel to check the contact breaker gap that the 'insulated' contact point show nil resistance to ground irrespective as to whether the points are open or closed. Disconnecting the condenser and magneto lead plus the second magneto lead (normally connected to ground) shows that there is virtually no resistance through the magneto coil, although the condenser is not leaking.
Is this a). normal, or b). not normal, and the reason why I am getting no spark? The magneto coil is a sealed unit but maybe there's some internal insulation breakdown.
