my ford fiesta doesnt like female drivers?

my ford fiesta, 1994 1.1, has a problem starting sometimes when myself or daughter drive it, although my husband swears it never happens when he drives it!!!! It doesnt always start first time, or it starts then dies straight away, or sometimes it gets a bit along the street then stops. Is there a choke in this car? The garage finds nothing wrong (as typically it always starts first time for the mechanic) and we have just replaced the alternator , battery and it has had a new clutch fitted.
Any ideas???
