Mend John Deere 185 Lawn Mower Drive Belt

How do I change the drive belt on John Deer 185 Hydrostatic drive?

We need to change the drive belt on a John Deer 185 with Hydrostatic drive. What is the easiest way to do that? I believe a pulley needs taken off but which one is the best choice? The SN on ours is 420001 . (Apparently that makes a difference on which belt it needs.) Thanks!!!

Hello
I am trying to change the belt on a scott/ JD 1742. The belt for this mower is a (JD#)gx10065 at 96 inchs so measure your old belt .The previous ower gave me a gx 10062 at a106 inchs so after removing the deck ,the guard on the front pulley,stearing arm, sliding the belt from the front to the back I thought that I would have remove two small v belt tension pulleys was not quite sure of the route The wide face pulley goes against the back of the belt and as you tension it it increases the speed ?? Then it was obvious I had the wrong belt on a holiday weekend on an Island
