why dose my 1.8 diesel engine ford escort keep cutting out?

I also had a similar problem with my car cutting out. Have you tried changing the fuel filter - that worked for me and it only costs about £2.00 from Kevin Coopers, it takes about 10 mins to change - it's worth a try just in case there is a crap stuck in the filter.

check the banjo fittings where the fuel pipe enters the filter from the tank,any cr*p from the tank usually gets trapped here
