my kenmore 90 series washer stopped spinning?

I have the same problem with my model, 80 series. Sears diagnosis - timer. For an 11+ yr old washer, not worth it. Before I start shopping I am going to try replacing the knob.
Under $20 and returnable (timer is electrical and therefore not). I made this mistake with the dryer and ended up with a timer I did not need and could not return.

If you can hear a motor sound but no spinning I would think the belt is broken- My machine would fill up but not adigate ( move from left to right) It also would not spin out- In the beginning before it totally broke down it would wash but no wring- In older machines the entire top and sides come off as one piece- after you remove the center piece in the tub and all outside screws- It is easier to use 2 people to lift up the entire outside of machine- The belt fits around the center of tub. Cheaper then calling a repair man!!!
