Mend Dyson DC04 Fine Cable Power

how to fix the on/off switch on dyson dc04?

The switch works fine but the electrical cable to it is obviously breaking as the power goes on and off as you waggle the lead. I can repair the lead if I can get inyo the switch. How do I get the casing apart to do this?

Hi,

Just go to www.dyson-online.com and look at their technical advice section. The site is fantastic! Good luck.

follow this tip file a 2.5 mm diameter nail to a flat the same width and thickness as the slot at the side of the switch button adjacent to the handle slide the tool into the slot ntill it stops them push gently towards the handle and pull the button off then undo the screw and remove the switch. Cut the wire short by about 300mm fit new crimp connectors and reassemble takes about 10 to 15 mins and saves £245.00 on a new one. if the switch is faulty dyson will supply one if you push them hard enough. good luck

Hi

I think its a problem with all 04's since mine also did it as did my inlaws. The answer is trash the button since getting it out without breaking it is almost impossible without the special tool. A new one is peanuts (infact i made a fuss and dyson sent me one free) NB they wont sell you a cable as it is deemed not to be a user replacement part so youll have to buy some crimp terminals (halfords) and get good with the crimping tongs. DONT FORGET TO TEST IT BEFORE YOU PUT THE NEW SWITCH BACK...good luck

Hi Phil,
I had the same problem. The switch unit is fastened in the in the side of the handle by 1 screw which is underneath the On/Off Button. Getting the button out is dam tricky. The button just pushes into the body of the switch unit, but is then held 'captive' by a hook that is integrel to the button.
On the 'body side' of the button you will see a very small slot or keyway, you have to get something down there to push the 'hook' inwards and release it from the body of the switch housing. Very tricky and fiddly. Needs lots and lots of patience.
When you get the button out, remove the screw and lift the switch unit out, BUT make very special note of how the wires to the switch and the cable are arranged. Getting this unit back in can be very difficult if you don't. If you have a digital camera I advise you take photos.
The hard part is getting the button out, good luck!
