how can i fix sticky divertor valve on worchestor 280 rsf gas combi?

valve is not diverting to allow water to heat up,this happened about 5 years ago and i replaced valve and sorted prob,is this likely to need replaced again or could it be something else.i also have to top system up every couple of months,is that normal.had boiler about 10 years.
