how can i fix my hotpoint first edition wm51 washing machine?

my washing machine was working then each time i had to bang the door and the power light would come on but no when i bang it there is no light coming on at all

Two things you can try.
1) you need to change the door interlock
2) remove the two screws that hold on the door hook plate behind the door handle and make sure the spring is properly attactched to the door hook.
