Mend Ford Escort 97

How do I fix my 97 Ford Escort?

I need to replace the front wheel bearing on my 97 Ford Escort. I am having trouble getting the nut off. I have tried pry bars on the end of my ratchet and also tried an impact wrench. Should it really be so tight that an impact wrench won't loosen it? Or do I have more damage than I thought?
