Philips dvdr1640p will not read?

I have installed a philips dvdr1640p on my win 2000 pc. It has been recognised but will not read anything i have download the aspi with no success.

Sounds like your drive is toast. You may need to buy a new one, they are Cheap nowadays. Around 50 dollars canadian.
