hi there, changing a starter on one of these is really easy! and if you have the new one to hand, will take less than 30 mins.
1, undo the nuts which secure the earth lead and constant live to the poles on the solanoid ( the bit that sticks out of the motor) making sure that the lead thac comes from the positive battey terminal does not touch anything metal!!!
2, remove the thin wire that has a spade connector on the end of it.
3, undo the 3 bolts that hold the starter to the engine block (2 will need to be done from underneath)
4, pull out the motor, it will come away very easily.
5, to refit, just do the same in reverse!!!!!!!!
WARNING ...... i know from first hand experience that these cars are a bugger to start, it would be wel worth you testing the starter motor, as its often a dirty connection, or the ignition barrel, mine still wont go properly, so the ignition switch is the next step i think. to test you r starter, connect a jump lead from the positive on the battery to the constant live on the starter ( where you pulled off the thick red lead ) and the negative on the battery to the metal where you bolt it back on to the car. now, whilst standing on the motor ( otherwise it will jump!!!) join the constant terminal to the switched terminal, with a piece of wire and see if it spins up, if it does, the starter is not your problem. clean all terminals with a wire brush, and see if this helps.
good luck!
