How can I fix my panasonic dvd recorder model dmr ez25eb?

my recorder has the message dvd1 on the unit, it wont do anything - any ideas how to remove this to get the thing to work

The Remote mode has been changed, to 2, or 3.
The opposite thing happens if you change batteries in the remote.
Place the romote on a firm flat surface, in front of the recorder.
Press and hold "Enter" on the remote, wait for a few seconds, and whilst still holding that, press 1. The DVD display should respond.
