if you see "SAFE" on the radio on a car400 radio, a number will appear before it, starting from 10, - 10 means the number of times you can enter the correct code before the radio locks. if you enter the wrong code then it will go down to 9, and so on everytime you put in the wrong code, the waiting time doubles, so, starting from 10, if you put the wrong code in you have to wait, 40 mins driving time i think, wrong code again, then 80 mins driving time, then 160 mins etc etc, so every time your driving your car make sure you turn the radio on so it will always say the "safe" cos if you have the radio off, the timer will not count down.... this is a real pain, cos the code i have is a 5 digit number and the radio will only allow me to enter a 4 digit number, and i had 1 attempt left, so now i have to look around for a new car400 radio cos i bought meself a new car radio and when i managed to get the car400 radio out, it was a totally different connection so it is looking like i have to replace the old car400 radio with a new car 400 radio....Hope this helps....

ok the matter is very very easy ,, i get this problem too when i enterd the cood 3 times wrong the only way to resolve this problem is 1. Open the engin 2. Press and still on AS button 3. Now press the power button still pressing the tow buttons 10 second 4. Release the buttons 5.wait for 8 - 10 minutes 6. The box number will apear again to enter the good cood thanks

hi just to add about the rest of the comments very good it helped me a lot i found that once you enter the code you have to press and hold the "as" button again and then it accepts the code thanks for all your help ;o)

first
take the radio out, you can use small 4 screw drivers in the gaps to release the radio out from the panel . Because you can find at the cover of the radio are write the 4 numbers of the code .

second
connect the radio again inside of the car.

to recovered the radio from safer condition :

1. turn on the ignition (don't need start the car)
2. hold the AS few time and press the ON the radio
3. wait a few seconds and will be appear the 10 - - - - this means the display ask for the proper code .

Presume a Vauxhall???

1. Turn on ignition - not necessary to start car!!
2. Press AND HOLD "AS" button
3. Whilst KEEPING "AS" BUTTON DEPRESSED turn radio on
4. Wait till beep is heard
5. Screen should show "----", release "AS" button and enter code
