How can I fix my kitchen unit?

Kickboard on kitchen unit is damaged. It is made of chipboard. Can it be replaced or can it be overlayed and if by what?

We would like to replace or cover our existing bottom kick boards with stainless steel

Yep! easy. Firstly never heard or bothered about overlaying I just ripped my one off and fitted a new one. Take the old on off. Material list: Damp cloth [to wipe no nails off your hands] Tube NO NAILS adhesive. Two blocks of wood [you could cut these off the old kickboard] and a new kick board. Cut two blocks that will fill floor to cab shelf base fix one each side these must be set back inwards about .5 to 1mm NOT FLUSH WITH FRONT. Let them set making sure they are plumb
upright. When set apply a layer of NO NAILS adhesive to the rear of the new kickboard in line with the blocks on the cab press on to the blocks and its done. Now the reason for setting the blocks back about .5 to 1mm is the to counter the thickness of the NO NAILS adhesive between blocks and kickboard so the k.B ends up level with any either side.

I've done many like this as well as removable ones using magnetic clips and or small tool spring clips and doweling.
