No heat?

I've just moved into my new property and I have a combi 80 boiler which is giving me hot water but no heat from the radiators. Both the buttons for Hot water and Central heating are on but nothing seems to be happening with the radiators. When I turn a tap on the boiler kicks in and I see the flames followed soon after with nice hot water but there is nothing for the radiators and all settings are on for 'constant' :-( brrrrrrrr

All done without the need for a plumber :-) was told to make sure there was water in the tank, which there wasn't... don't laugh, all working now.

I've got to get the boiler raised 18" because currently half of it sits between the kitchen worktop and is a total waste of space and
I've been advised that as my boiler is very old and I should look into getting a condensing boiler as they are better in the long run.

I've been quoted £650 to raise the boiler or £1,600 for a new one do these sound like fair prices?

getting british gas out to do this would be agood idea but i would go for the contract, over the one off visit, we have alot of these on the patch i work on in the south west, they are very prone to leaks, and highly prone to breakdowns the company was bought out by ariston a couple of years ago, they have subsiquently removed chaffoteaux boilers from sale in the UK, only thier very sucsefull water heaters remain. so you may end up having BG out more than once a year, so a contract would be best for you.

you have to laugh on here. bleed the rads in what order you like. if its a house do bottom to top, but where you start don't matter.

Thank you for your feedback, i may just get British Gas out for their fixed fee repair as i've no idea what a diverer valve is. Does anyone think this would be a cost effective thing to do?

if this is britony combi 80, ther is a fault with the diverer valve on these boilers

If you find your thermostat is ok check you don't have any air trapped in the system by bleeding the radiators(these must be done in order to remove all air from the system).Sorry i can't be more precise but different houses have a different bleeding order ,depending on where your radiators are in conjunction with you boiler.

Hi Ben, the room thermostat seems to have been disconnected for some reason. Will it not work at all without one?
