how can i change a water pump on a ford mondeo?

the garege told me they need to remove the cambelt to gain accsess to the water pump 3/4 hours max =35 A HOUR=£140 WHEN YOU CHANGE THE WATER PUMP YOUD BE BEST OFF CHANGING THE CAM BELT ALSO IF ITS DUE IT COST AROUND £80 FOR A CAM BELT KIT FOR YOUR CAR AS WHEN THEY CHANGE THE WATER PUMP THE ALMOST THER TO CHANGING THE CAM BELT

This job is a real pain in the bum! Pay the garage fees or sell the car, it really is no small task as on many cars. Lots of tiny nooks and crannies hide 10mm bolts that are tricky to get too with the wheel arch in the way, might be easier to lift the engine out if you have the gear.

this job is not as easy as it sounds, you have to take off the left mounting to get access to the parts, the engine has to be raised about 2ins, the belts have to be removed, you will need a 13mm spanner on the fan belt tensioner, turn it cl/wise till you can remove the fan belt off the lower pulley. you now have to take off the covers, top and middle. mark the cams in case you move them be be careful not to, the cam belt tensioner has to be removed, the water pump can now be removed. use a sealant as well as the gasket when you put the new one on

It can be done as long as you mark the pulleys that drive on that drive camshaft etc.You need tippex to mark all pulleys and in line with the cover behind.It is important that the timing is reset exactly the same way as it came off.If you can manage that then take out water pump and replace.Please use what they call hermatite where water is around to seal properly.Also check timing belt to see if it is caracked etc as you can now renew it.
