How to de-activate ecu/immobiliser unit in a fiat punto?

Hi there, does any1 know how I'm able to de-activate/switch off the immboiliser in a 1996 fiat punto without having to pay someone alot of monies to do so. Does any1 know if AA/RAC will switch off immobiliser/ecu unit thus enabling me to use the key which i recently ordered which was made by using the mechanical code - I did have a blue key for this car, which I no longer have, this key will let me in the car, then I have to communicate the electronic code to the car by depressing the pedals etc, but do you know how I can disable the ecu/immobiliser unit so I can just use this key to switch on the engine without having to tap the pedals using the electronic code? Thank you - your help is really appreciated.

you can have the engine ecu re programmed back to default, on refitting the ecu make sure the key code box is un-plugged so it doesn't re-programme the engine ecu back to your old key. the code box sits above the fuse box inside the car with white plugs plugged into it.

Oooh, Just thinking..... there would be one other way around it. A complete new lock set and ECU from a scrapyard would do the trick. You would need both, but i'm sure this would be cheaper than spending loads at a dealer. Why did they make it so awkward for the people that own these cars..... and then give an over-ride by pushin pedals. lol

I might add that without the blue keys there is no chip for the cars ECU to read so if it is just a copy the only way round it is to have a virgin ECU replaced (i.e without an active key code). If you still have a red key then a key can be cut from that but they are quite expensive. Though not quite as expensive as a new ECU. :o/

I have had a number of problems with the immobiliser on my 97 punto. There is a thread on here lower down. I had to remove the battery for an hour as the key code light had come on and it wouldn't reconnise my keys. When you re-attach the the battery leads it resets the ECU which has the key code embedded in it. Give that a whirl.

Hope that sorts your problem. It cured alot of other electrical anomilies that the car seemed to have too.
