when i hold shift and the at sign the sign doesnt com on for my emails?

Your keyboard layout is probabaly for USA not UK, if you have a EN symbol on the bottom right of the screen click it, and set it to English. if not, goto start/control panel,regional language options,
go in there set it all to UK
