How do I remove stud from refrigerator wall?

I ordered a shelf stud for a Whirlpool refrigerater, model#ED27DQXBWO1; Part#4388538.I received 2 types, one with a screw in the end of it and one without. I need the one without the screw. How do I get the old one out without damaging the interior wall of the refrigerator?

I had no problem getting the old one out,I just used a open end wrench and turned.That forced the wire to compress and it came out.Now I have a problem installing the new one as I can't seem to get it to stay in tight.Anyone have the answer to that problem?Mike
