Mend Ford 1998 GLX Mondeo Battery Alternator

Battery light on 1998 glx mondeo means what?

I jump started my neighbours car for him with my mondeo and as soon as I'd finished the battery light came on. After a while everything just died and the car wouldn't start. How doI know if its a new battery that I need or if the alternator has gone, or something else I don't know about?

the first thing to check is the fuse in ur fuse box. If all is ok Then it is alternator not the battery NOTE if ur battery light stays on then its alternator aint charging or the fuse has gone. CHECK the fuse first. if all of them are good then its deffinatly the alternator as thats the only reason the light will stay on ITS NOT BATTERY. If it was ur battery that had gone when u start the car the alternator will take over and ur light wouldnt stay on. HOPE this helps
