Panasonic PVDF2704 Remote does not work?

My remote doesn't work...bought new one and bought universal so I think problem is with TV..The other night I tried remote late in the evening and it worked for about five minutes then nada..What could this be ??? Expensive to fix ???

try switching off the light - some bulbs interfere with the IR sensor reception. this may explain why it works late in the day.
