When the drum was going round it started to make slight banging noise then stopped revolving. After looking at from the back it looked just like the belt had come off but after manually revolving the drum it sounds like a bearing may have gone on the drum. I know nothing about washing machines at all by the way. However if im correct my question is how much to repair this or is it a case of a new macahine.
Thanks for any help Jim Halliwell.
i have had the same problem the tension springs at top of drum had broke making it bang and this in turn made the belt come off it his a hotpoint wm35 model the springs have cost me 15pounds inc post. ian.

this is probably a broken leg on the drum shaft and requires the purchase of adrum shaft bearing kit plus a front tub gasket seal, the parts are approx. £30 and labour approx.£45. total job time 2 hours.
