Mend Challenge Starter Pull Cord

starter pull cord?

the pull cord snapped in the housing of my challenge xtreme petrol mower. I repaired it but now when I pull it to start the mower, the cord does not rewind. I think that it could be the return spring is not engaging some how. Any ideas?
