How can I fix my 6th Sense Colours whirlpool 6KG WWDC6400/1?

My machince was and is working. But the initial light at the top of the dial has gone off. When I start a was now, turn dial to the top, then turn to which cycle I need. Thr light then indicates that and press start..... Whilst the machine is in cycle it makes a noise now, like its grinding on bearings or something. But this only started happening when the light at the top of the dial stopped working!!!!! Any ideas please, would be helpful. I have run a descale wash and also cleaned the filter, to no avail.
