Hotpoint FDW60G wont start?

Could some one tell me what part I need to replace when the following problem exists;
I switch on the power button then select the start/reset button followed by the program button. The power button gives a long beep, say 2 seconds and then when I press the start/reset nothing happens I dont get any of the programs lighting up. If I continue repeating this sequence eventually the machine may start up with no program light showing and often I dont get a full wash cycle.
I would be very grateful for any advice.
