the washing powder dispenser overflows with water intermittently - have taken top off bu cannot see a problem

Is there washing powder caked on the dispenser or in the pipe that feeds down into the drum? Give it a clean.

As you couldn't be bothered to tell us what the make and model are, there's not really much else we can say, is there?
