Mend Hotpoint Circuit Trips Switch

Hotpoint Aquarious DWF50 tripping circuit when switched on?

Our Hotpoint Aquarius DWF50 trips the electricity circuit switch when it it switched on. Seem to have started when the bottom spray arm disconnected from its housing. This is now firmly back in place but the machine is still tripping the circuit when I attempt to turn it on. I cant see any obvious damage to the interior of the machine or the wiring to the on button. I've checked the wiring on the inside of the door. All wires seem to be intact. Any ideas on what might be tripping the circuit?

Thank you NZ. The floor tray was full of water. When the spray arm came off, water must have leaked into the tray. I emptied the water and dried off the wiring, water pump, etc , finishing it off with a hair dryer!! I have run it through a few cycles with no leak and no further problems.
Thanks to all. problem solved.

Have you looked underneath on the floor tray? Maybe water got down there on to the wiring or the wash pump may be sitting in water.

Well you can reasonably say that it's not the heating element or a pump or the water inlet solenoid - or the detergent flap.

You do not say if it's an ELCB or an MCB that's tripping but no matter - the Dishwasher Doctor can work that out when she calls.

You either have an Earth Leakage problem or an Over-Current problem - something electrical has failed. It should be relatively easy for the repair person to diagnose what it is.

Its tripping as soon as I press the button to turn the machine on, before any programme is selected.

All people can do is to guess what might be causing the trip to happen - the machine needs diagnosis to find the cause.

Either a leak to Earth is causing the trip - multiple circuits drop out - or an over-current is causing it - just the power circuit trips.

Of passing interest is at what point in time the trip happens - as soon as a programme is selected? As soon as it gets power applied to it - perhaps 10 minutes into the washing cycle - each of these will point towards a particular cause - respectively - Water Inlet Solenoid - Power supply - Heating Element. There are other component areas - pumps - detergent door etc.

It will not be the spray arm - it's plastic and does not connect to the electricity.

A visit from the dishwasher doctor might be a good idea.

Good Luck...
