Mend Bermuda 552 Electrode Heating Ignition

pilot light will not self ignite on Bermuda 552 Back Boiler?

My pilot light will not self ignite although lights instantly with lighted taper and electrode sparks OK. from igniter button. Have fitted new electrode and spark generator button. When lit, pilot light is approx. 1 inch high.
Please advise me. I have been an industrial furnace technician.
