speedo, rev. counter, temp. guage and petrol guage stopped working!?

As in the short question the petrol, temp., rev. counter and speedo have all stopped working. They remain inactive... Is it likely to be a fuse, relay or loose connector. I can't imagine it is a sensor problem as all four would have different sensors.
At the same time the displays for radio etc went crazy (radio switching on and off and the dash display changing to all the diffferent menus) but these settled down when I switched the car off and then swiched it on again! This had no effect on the (traditional) dials.
The car is a 58 reg mondeo titanium x estate.
