It has a heat fault - probably in the power supply - as the set begins to work the electronics begin to warm - at a certain temperature a heat fault causes the set to appear to turn off - things cool down and at another point it starts up again.

Sometimes it's possible to narrow down the failing component with an aerosol freezer spray - if you know what you're doing.
