How can I fix my Zanussi Aquacycle 1000 fla1002w ?

The softener does not seem to be going into the drum. I have put the softener in the draw and have checked that this does disappear but after the wash has finished and I remove my clothes they have no smell or feel of any softener ever reaching them. Can anybody please help me fix this?
