Create a manual restoration point before going further.
It's always possible to mess up. Be extra carefull. Take all your time, and some more. Very carefully read all texts that are shown and don't proceed if you did not understand what you need to do.
Write all steps you take with ALL the messages and informations that are displayed. It can be in a text file or on paper.
If something is not clear: STOP! Ask around what to do next. If you ask here, give the exact message that is puzzling you and all options available.
When you start your computer, just after the POST screen when the display turn to black: Press the F8 key a few times.
This will bring the startup options screen.
There is a time out. Press one of the directional arrows to stop it. This gives you all the time you want to carefully read the various options available.
Chose Safe mode.
OR
Chose the system restore option.
If asked, enter the administrative password.
If you chose safe mode:
When the desktop show, you are in safe mode.
Your system may be slower. You may find that several things that you are used to have are not there. It's normal: Only minimal drivers have been loaded, ALL applications that normaly start with Windows did NOT start, the paging file is not used and several optimisations are not used.
You are now working with full administrative privileges. Be carefull. CAREFULLY read all messages that are displayed. If you are unsure, you can always use the Esc key, or the Cancell button to cancell the current operation.
If you chose the system restoration option:
You are shown a list of all available restore points.
Try the most recent one.
If that restoration point don't work, start again and try the previous one. Repeat untill you find one that works or you tried them all.
