Can I rewire a motion sensor myself??

You might cut the wrong cable.

Ok thanks for that,obviously the mains power to the alarm panel should be off whilst doing all of this?

If it is set up correctly when you take the lid off the detector it will go into alarm.
Put in code and this will silence it.

Now photograph the wiring as it is inside, then write down the colours and where each one goes.

Cut each wire on its OWN and remove the cable from the PIR. This will ensure you have not created a short circuit.
Feed the cable through the detector until you have taken the slack away and then gently peel back the outer sheath to expose the separate cores. Strip back ONE at a time and put into the detector before starting on the next.
When finished put lid back on detector, then enter code.
The system should reset.
