hotpoint BFI620?

I have a Hotpoint BF1620 dishwasher which was working fine. The door was open part way through a wash cycle (the on/off switch/light on the machine still works) but the switch for selecting the programme wash cycle will not advance to any other cycle & the machine is will not pump out
the remains of the water.
