hotpoint washing machine is requesting water to fill when cycle ends?

Hotpoint washing machine, working ok until today, heard banging of water pipes in a regular time, when checking machine it seems to be calling for water in short bursts , then stops, hence pipes banging in loft. Did not seem to drain as dry as usual in the last wash? Any suggestions? Thanks
