megane trip computer?

getting 'change oil soon' message on renault megane trip computer. had full service done 12 months ago but only done 3000 miles since. is message just time-based, ie last service was 12 months ago so must be due again now, (in which case I can ignore it because done so little mileage), or is it more sophisticated, ie its able to check oil viscosity, and so I really do need to do something about it?
