temp gauge not working?

my water temp gauge is not working where is the sender located the only one I can see is the one on passenger side to the top left but this has 3 leads from it two together one on its own the sender I have seen on ebay has only one can u please tell me what this sender is and where is the water temp is thanks

give us a clue as in make ,model, age, engine etc..as if my memory serves me right all manufacturers re different and have different engines.. but I will hazard a guess as on the engine ,and probably in the coolant side of it
