Mend Singer 257 Sewing Machine Repair Gear

Arme shaft gear on Singer 257?

I have the gear to replace the broken one. It seems the old one is pinned in, and it seems I will have to remove the whole upper parts to pull shaft from above.

Is that true, or is there some other way ??
