How can i fix my GHDs?

earlier today i used my ghds (the normal middle sized ones) to straighten my hair and they worked perfectly with no trouble. however 6 hours later i went to switch them on (it had rained and my hair had then dried curly) and there was no sign of electrical life anywhere.
the light won't come on, and the plates aren't heating up.
my theory is that the fuse needs replacing, as the wire seems fine, and the other questions i have read say that if the wire was loose they could push it back in and make it function. however i have tried this to no avail.
in other questions people have mentioned similar complaints, i was wondering if when the plates didn't work, if the light came on, because then i might be able to establish which fuse has blown, whether its the thermal one or the normal one...
please help
