Mend Ford Mondeo Mk3 Light Work Thing

Reverse light wont work?

Mondeo mrk 3 55 my reverse light wont work every thing is ok all works. But it seem that the gear leavers in the gear box don't seem to be working the switch what do I do

try removing the wiring connector from the switch and bridge the contacts with a small split pin/wire,turn ignition on,if the lights work I would try a switch in it
