Mend Brother PX100 Wont Foot Its Up

why wont the presser foot stay in its up position?

my wife has a Brother px100 sewing machine.The presser foot
does not stay up in its highest position but drops to the next
position down when you take your hand off the lever.The plastic lever looks ok and fits on to a pin around the back.

Too much pressure on the foot, adjust by pressure adjuster.
