wash cycle won't start-whirlpool top loading washing machine?

On Super Wash or Permanent Press cycle, after water fill is complete, washer motor and agitator will not start running if time cycle is set for anything greater than six (6) minutes. It just sits there and does n othing, the timer doesn't advance - nothing happens. When timer is manually advanced to six minutes, washing starts and completes as normal. Whirlpool model LSR8233EQO, serial number CG3703669.

if you have to manually advance timer I can only think it could be the timer,if you good at mechanical repair you can try and remove timer,look for burnt points or see if small timer is working(turning and making running sound)if it was the lid switch it would not help if you advance timer by hand,try borrow timer from friend to eliminate problem
