sparking from brushes causing brush carriers to melt & brushes to stick in carriers.I've cleaned the motor armature as previously suggested but still faulty.motor seems to run ok ,is there some sort of spark quench anywhere.
the fault was due to a partial blockage in the drain causing water to stay in the drum too long and putting extra strain on the motor.

i would suggest give it a good clean but also there are two types of brush for these, cheap and proper, go for the proper ones they should be white not black, also if the drum bearings are going the motor has to work a lot harder this can make it overheat check the drum for up and down movement

You never mentioned if the brushes were new, if not try new brushes as they will cause problems when they look only half worn. Also, after cleaning the armature, make sure you clean out all the debris.
