Windows XP... The end?

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT INFORMATION.

THIS IS NOT A QUESTION.

Long term support for Windows XP is to end THIS MONTH! (June 2013)

There will no more updates at all, including no more security fixes.
Security applications will abandon testing for this version. Those may no longer work at all in a few months.

Actual computer using Windows XP will be at incerasing risk whenever they access the internet in any maner, even through a LAN, behind a proxi and firewall.

You'll be safe ONLY if the computer is strictly stand alone with NO network connection.

If you have an XP box which does not meet the minimum spec for one of the currently supported versions, safest solution is to back up all indispensable files and restore them on to a new machine running a current version of Windows. Then use the XP machine for archives only, removing any internet connection. Expensive, certainly, but running a machine that is vulnerable to malware could prove even more so.
