Locking problem (ford focus) 2001?

I can only enter my car through the passenger door once I have opened passenger door with key I lean across and have to open drivers door.when I open drivers door the central locking system kicks in and opens all other doors
But when I lock doors with key put in drivers door central locking system works and locks all doors .please can anyone help.
