Error Reading DVD-ROM Disc on Jaguar XKR built in Alpine unit?

The above message appears on the screen when first switched on. The unit continues to try and read the disc and can take up to a dozen attempts from cold with the clock face appearing displaying please wait. Once activated the problem goes away until the unit is next switched on. I have tried cleaning the disc to no avail and inspected the unit for damp
