Mixer shower can not be turned back to bath?

After using the shower on my mixer shower, which is over the bath, the shower function cannot be turned off although the 'collar' has been pushed to the correct position for bath use. The shower is about 3 years old and has often stuck temporarily but I think it's permanent this time...any suggestions?
