Ipig not responding to remote?

We have an I-Pig for daughters ipod - using the ipig's manual volume and accessing the Ipods controls the unit all works OK however when using the remote to send requests to change volume, change music etc the I-pig mouth flashes and stays flashing but nothing happens to the music/volume and the ipig keeps flashing until you turn it off we have changed batteries etc but its like the I-pig is getting the message but nothing happens !
