Mend Nissan Almera Start Turned Sound

my nissan almera 2002 1.5 won't start!?

Once the ignition is turned on, the car sounds like it wants to start, but then the sound changes and the key light on dash board comes on. Prior to this, the car would not alway start on the first try-waiting about five minutes or so then try again and it would start. Any ideas?? Thanks
